Indoor Pollutants

According to the EPA in the last several years, a growing body of scientific evidence has indicated that the air within homes and other buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air in even the largest and most industrialized cities. Other research indicates that people spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors. Thus, for many people, the risks to health may be greater due to exposure to air pollution indoors than outdoors.

Dangers of Poor Indoor Air:

  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Infections
  • Cancer

Dust can carry chemicals, bacteria and viruses, making a breath or swallow able to cause a variety of health problems. Viruses invade a 'host' cell and take it over to make more virus particles. The cells of the lining the respiratory passages are open to virus attacks because they are not covered by protective skin. Bacteria are capable of multiplying by themselves and their shapes vary. What can I do?

In the past, health care professionals have at times suggested that allergy and asthma sufferers remove carpets to reduce levels of allergens found in their homes. In Sweden, because of their allergy scare of 1977, the government banned carpeted flooring in public buildings and schools. A side affect of this decision was that many people decided to remove carpeting from their houses too, particularly bedrooms. Studies since have shown that despite these actions, the number of children with allergies in Sweden tripled between 1977 to 1995.

There have been numerous studies that indicate that well-maintained and cleaned carpeting actually improves indoor air quality. Natural gravity causes dust and contaminants to settle into carpets and upholstery. This process actually contains allergens, keeping the airborne irritants out of your breathing zone.

As with any type of filter regular cleaning improves results. After cleaning, application of a post-treatment can extend the benefits of allergen removal for up to six months. We use a MasterBlend process that achieves this by actually changing the shapes of allergen proteins so the allergy-sufferer’s body does not recognize the irritant and therefore does not react to it.
This ResponsibleCare System is completely safe for children and pets and is derived from fruit and vegetable seeds.

EZ Dry's Anti-Allergen Process
Pre-Vacuuming:

All areas to be treated will be thoroughly pre-vacuumed before wet cleaning. A high quality HEPA filter vacuum cleaner is used for this procedure.Deodorization: If carpet or textile deodorization is required, Anti-Allergen Oxidizing Deodorizer will be applied to mattresses, carpet or upholstery prior to cleaning. A short dwell time and rinse of the deodorizer will be done during the cleaning process.Pre-Treatment: An Anti-Allergen PreSpray will be applied to mattresses, upholstery, carpeting and any textiles to be cleaned. Agitation of the area with a brush, groomer, or towel is done with ten minutes of dwell time. Colorfastness is tested in an inconspicuous area. An In-line sprayer is used at 100 PSI to prevent atomizing products in the home. This is because allergy sufferers may be sensitive to finely sprayed materials.

Extraction Cleaning:

Hot water extraction is used to clean pre-sprayed areas with Anti-Allergen All Fiber Rinse. Use of low moisture, internal spray hand tools on upholstery and mattresses are used for speed drying.Mattress Cleaning: This process starts with a thorough vacuuming of all sides of the mattress with a HEPA-filter vacuum cleaner. The Anti-Allergen PreSpray is applied and allowed adequate dwell time. The mattress is cleaned with Anti-Allergen All Fiber Rinse in the machine using a low moisture hand tool to leave the mattress as dry as possible.

Allergy Relief Treatment on Mattresses:

Allergy Relief Treatment is applied to all sides of the mattress.

Mattress Turning:

Generally, mattresses require turning every six months. Turning the mattress is part of our service.

Allergy Relief Treatment Application on Carpet and Upholstery:

Allergy Relief Treatment is applied to all areas.

Carpet Protector:

Allergy Relief Treatment is compatible with DuPont Teflon® ‚ and most other carpet protectors on the market.

Speed Drying Cleaned and Treated Areas:
Because humidity is often an asthma trigger it is very important to speed dry all cleaned areas. This is especially true of bedrooms and in particular mattresses, which must be dry by bedtime. Depending upon temperature and humidity, mattresses are usually dry in about an hour. An air mover is set up to blow across the mattress to speed dry it as quickly as possible. Speed dry of all cleaned and treated carpets and upholstery is also done.
Launder Bedding & Pillows:
Clients should launder bedding and pillows in hot water, using two cups of Allergy Relief Treatment in the rinse for each load. Allergen proof covers and treatment every 6 months are recommended for pillows.Baseboard and Window Sill Cleaning: Wiping down baseboards and windowsills with a damp cloth is a part of our Anti-allergen treatment because these are often areas that collect allergen laden dust.
Allergen Impermeable Bedding Covers:
Highly effective and comfortable allergen impermeable covers are now available for mattresses, pillows and comforters and are highly recommended. Weekly laundering of bedding in hot water using two cups of Allergy Relief Treatment every fourth week is also recommended.

Apply Anti-Allergen Filter Enhancer:
If the home has a forced air heating system, a spray of Anti-Allergen Filter Enhancer on the furnace filter will help trap and hold allergen proteins in the filter without reducing airflow. Filters should be treated each time they are replaced. This product can also be used to treat vacuum cleaner bags. In most cases, a complete cleaning and application of the Allergy Relief Treatment will be required only every six months. In cases of severe allergies or very difficult environmental conditions, cleaning and treatment may be required at three-month intervals.

The MasterBlend ResponsibleCare System of high quality cleaning agents is not only an important part of anti-allergen treatments but these cleaners are outstanding for everyday use as well. There has been epidemic growth of allergic illness, chemical sensitivity, and mystery illnesses such as chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. That is why EZ Dry Carpet Care believes it makes sense to use the safest products possible.
